Getting to Know You

I’ve been keeping to my schedule of writing 4000 words a week and the story has been progressing nicely. My three POVs are rounding out and I’m getting better acquainted with them so I thought this would be a good time to tell you a bit about them.

Harmony is the main POV and was actually one of the hardest for me to get into the swing of mainly because she’s quiet and reserved and this is different from my usual female characters who are typically self assured and obviously confident. I took a while to get in tune with her strength and understand her voice fully. Harmony has had a difficult life and spent most of it surrounded by overbearing male figures. Breaking free of these was just the start of her story and finding the courage to fight back against them and reclaim her life is one of the hardest things she’ll ever do.

Ellie is a secondary POV, Harmony’s PA and unlikely best friend. Loud, colourful, vulgar and self assured. She’s both likeable and frustrating, can’t take no for an answer and doesn’t seem to know when she should step back. She’s prepared to put herself in danger to help Harmony. She’s a pleasure to write and the contrast between her and Harmony gives me a nice balance and their interactions allow both of them to grow.

Amadeus McAvoy - DCI McAvoy, he’s a half Trinadadian half Scottish detective who’s been on the peripheral of Harmony’s life since she found her mothers dead body when she was only seven. He’s never been able to get the first suspicious death he attended out of his mind and when Ellie finds him and tells him that Harmony is in danger he doesn’t hesitate to help. He’s logical and considered, strategist who likes to look at the situation from a couple of moves ahead.

I’m really excited to keep learning about them and telling their stories, working with three POVs is possibly one of the hardest things I’ve done in writing to terms to date and I’m enjoying pushing myself to do this well.

I’d love to hear about your characters so please drop me on note in the comments
